nenntorship

In 2025, the USDA declared 243 rural veterinary shortage areas in 46 states, which is the highest number of shortage areas ever.  -  June 2025 AVMA

When NENN opened its doors in 2020, we committed to elevating and advancing the veterinary industry by becoming a premier destination for mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals.

In 2024, we proudly launched the first cohort of the NENNtorship Program in collaboration with Underwood Farms - an initiative that quickly proved to be a resounding success. In its inaugural year, the program helped place two of our cadets into veterinary undergraduate programs at UC Davis and Fresno State.

Beyond that, NENN continues to support aspiring veterinarians across the country, with students we've mentored now attending programs in Hawaii, Ohio, and the Caribbean.

The NENNtorship program was architected to provide aspiring veterinary professionals with an enriching experience created and managed by NENN. Each year NENN will accept ten (10) cadets into the program, who will embark on a journey of hands-on learning, education, and leadership
development, guided by our commitment to excellence, compassion, and innovation in animal care. NENN’s long term mentoring approach ensures continuous support, even as cadets navigate the rigorous demands of college on the journey toward becoming an Animal Science Major, Veterinary Technician, or Veterinarian.

This program is fully funded by the NENN Foundation, and comes at no cost to the participants. Donations to the NENN Foundation are instrumental in expanding the program and covering the ongoing expenses essential to maintaining its excellence. NENNtorship Mission Statement

Empowering future veterinary professionals through hands-on experience, education, and leadership development, our cadet program within the veterinary practice fosters a commitment to excellence, compassion, and innovation in animal care. Dedicated to the growth of aspiring individuals, we aim to cultivate a community that values the well-being of animals and the advancement of veterinary science.

Vision for the Cadet Program

Our NENNtorship Cadet Program envisions a future where a new generation of skilled and
compassionate professionals addresses the critical shortage in the veterinary and veterinary technician fields. By nurturing the talents of cadets, we aim to not only meet the rising demand for qualified professionals but also forge lasting relationships with practices facing staffing challenges.

We envision a collaborative network of veterinary professionals who, inspired by their cadet experiences, contribute to alleviating shortages in the industry. As our cadets embark on successful careers, they become an integral part of a broader community, forming connections with practices in need and seamlessly integrating into roles that support the overall growth and sustainability of veterinary healthcare.

Through this vision, our program aspires to be a catalyst for positive change in the industry, bridging the gap in staffing shortages while fostering a spirit of collaboration and shared commitment to exceptional animal care across diverse veterinary practices.
